Oh no.

What is happening to me where I can no longer just take for granted that my food is just food? Why can’t I just eat the baby cow or the force fed goose or the boiled-alive lobster and just appreciate their lusciousness. Why do I now see the cow instead of the steak? WHEN DID THIS HAPPEN???

Am I doomed to eat tofu & garbanzo beans for the rest of my life?

Is this the beginning of the end…

  1. Oh no, now you have darkened my day! (See comment to your last post!I) It’s not good to think about your food that way – we are hunter gatherers – but as a hunter, you just have to choose which foods you gather – and avoid the “forced” food. You need all that a mixed diet can offer, and enjoy what you do eat, so don’t let websites like peta.org spoil the good things in life – just avoid the bad things. Too much research can be harmful to your health! Mental and physical and emotional.

  2. I’ve been a vegetarian for 24 years and I find my diet to be incredibly varied, interesting, and satisfying. There is a huge wealth of food out there that doesn’t have a face – don’t fear the vegetarianism! I wish you were in Seattle so you could take one of my classes!

    • Thanks for your comment, Dana. I really appreciate it. I am such a fan of your blog and it really gives me comfort to see the variety of which you speak.

      With the odd exception, my diet mostly is vegetarian and so it shouldn’t be that much of a change, but there is something really overwhelming about making the statement, “No more meat.”

      HOWEVER I have been feeling more and more morally conflicted, and more and more unable to ignore certain truths of what happens in order for meat to appear on my plate. Some of it is absolutely appalling and heart-breaking, it’s all I can think of right now.
