Simple Salad & Sh*tty Steak

Steak dinner at the Cottage

This is the last of my posts from our Lazy Labour Day Weekend at the cottage. As you can tell, we certainly didn’t starve. One of the major downsides to living in our condo building is the fact that we can’t have a BBQ. Everything tastes better when grilled, don’t you think? Okay, maybe not everything but certainly steak. So considering the cottage comes equipped with a BBQ, it shouldn’t come as a surprise that in our weekend menu planning we included a steak dinner.

Farm Boy is the shiz when it comes to all things food-related. It is not just the market vibe, they definitely have a knack for selling a yummy product. Which is why we were so surprised that our steaks were yuck. Yes, that’s right, yuck. Maybe it was the fact that they were on sale (normally $14.99/lb, these beauties were $9.99/lb), maybe it was just bad luck, but they were absolutely filled through and through with fat, fat and FAT. So gross. So disappointing. BUT doesn’t it look like it was yummy?

And so, we will pretend it was.

The rest of the meal was definitely good. Baked potato, mushrooms, beans and a simple salad made with the cherry tomatoes that I grew from seed. These little beauties were so sweet and flavourful that all it took to make a little side salad was a hit of olive oil, some fresh oregano, and a sprinkle of S & P.

So it just goes to show that when it comes to meals you can’t win’em all. And although we were less than pleased with the way our dinner turned out, the Peaches & the Jimis certainly didn’t agree. They got a gourmet meal that night, that’s for sure.

ps. The view more than made up for the sh*tty steak. F’sho!
