Getting Back on Track

Back on Track

Remember when this was supposed to be a blog about getting a book published? A book geared towards fighting childhood obesity. And now this blog is full of cheesecake, ice cream cake & chocolate cake. A bit off track, huh?

I hear you.

Really, though, when you think about it life is full of set-backs. You start making progress in your savings account, when all of a sudden that nice SHINY catches your eye and you have to have it! You justify that you have all this money in your account, a little won’t be missed. And, after all, you deserve it, right?

I find the same to be so true of healthy eating.

There you are on the Road of Healthy Eating minding your own business, when all of a sudden a big sign pointing you in the direction of a yummy CAKE detour. What do you do? DUH! You take it – cake is delicious! And, you justify, it’s only 1 slice.

You take the detour, you eat the slice of cake – nothing has ever tasted better. Sometimes, that cake detour is followed by a chips detour which is followed by an ice cream detour which is followed by a chocolate bar detour which is followed by a poutine detour… and then all of a sudden, you are so far away from the Road of Healthy Eating that you can’t even remember how to get back. It seems so far away, you start thinking… I might as well build a house here… I’ll never get back!

Everything is going to be ooooo-kaaaaay!
Just take a couple of deep breaths.
In through the nose…
and out through the mouth.

There is NO NEED to build a house.

But I wanna live beside the poutine detour.

Really? You want to live here, do you?

Well, maybe not. But the Road of Healthy eating seems sooo far away. It’s going to take FOREVER to get back.

What if I told you it was just one step away?

I’d tell you that you are NUTS!

Seriously. It’s just over there.

Ya. Really. Just one step.

Ya right…

Try it. What do you have to lose?

Fine! But I’m only going one step.

Okay… here I go.

And before you know it, you’re back on the Road of Healthy Eating. No matter where those detours take you, it’s just a step away. All you have to do is to make one step in the right direction and you’re back on track.

The odd detour every now again is fine, just remember to always try to find your way back! And, for Pete’s sake, if you’re going to build a house… build it beside the Road of Healthy Eating. You don’t even wanna know the taxes that come with building next to the poutine detour. Don’t even get me started on the cake detour! For reals.

And no, I don’t know who Pete is. Ask my mother.
